SEASON 5 CHAMPIONS!

The third time's a charm! September 13, at the Matt Jimenez Community Center, we held our 5th Sunday League championship! We had a great game between the defending champions, Genesis going against the Hennessy Boys. The game was high scoring like we anticipated. The Hennessy Boys won their first Sunday league championship in their 3rd try. Led by finals MVP Ibrahim, the Hennessy Boys were firing on all cylinders. Even their defense was good as they bothered regular season MVP runner-up and held him way below his scoring average. Anthony only scored 18, but his teammates did their best to pick up the slack with Thomas scoring 22 and Nick scoring 18 as well. The Hennessy Boys were imposing their will with Larry and John, combining for 34 points. The game was close until the 3rd quarter, where the Hennessy Boys started pulling away thanks to a scoring barrage led by Ibrahim. But the defending champs didn't let up, Genesis cut the game close with an onslaught of 3 pointers, but it wasn't enough as the Hennessy Boys always had an answer to whatever Genesis threw at them. Congratulations to Genesis for reaching it this far and playing a great game, and congratulations to the Hennessy Boys for winning our 5th season Sunday League championship!

FINALS MVP:

Ibrahim Ali (Hennessy Boys)

STATS: 25 PTS, 10 REB, 9 AST 2 STL

REGULAR SEASON MVP:

Davis (Divergent)

Stats: 30.8 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 2.3 APG, 1.8 SPG, 0.3 BPG.

Congratulations to Davis for winning the regular season MVP! There may be no better scorer in our league than Davis. He has a wide array of moves that makes him almost unguardable. Davis is unfazed by pressure, and no matter which defender is guarding him, he finds a way to score. Not only does he have great moves for getting to the rim, but Davis has an underrated jumper and he can get hot in a hurry. Defenders have to respect him and this makes him one of the trickiest players to defend. Also, for a guard, he's one of the better rebounders in the league and almost averaged double digit rebounds. Davis is also an adept defender, capable of guarding the other team's best player while holding his own on both ends. This MVP voting was the closest one ever, but ultimately the weight on his shoulders is heavier than the other candidates. He was able to carry his teams to victory and make his teammates jobs easier because of all the attention he attracts. Congratulations again, Davis!
