SEASON 6 CHAMPIONS!

On Saturday, July 23, the PPBL crowned it's Saturday league champions, the Bruisers! Once again, PPBL had another championship game classic that came down to the wire. The game was very close the whole way and there were lead changes every few minutes as each team didn't want to let up. Former champions Tag Hirap had amazing performances from both Ariel (19 pts/18 reb/1 ast/1 blk) and Teody (23 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk), but ultimately wasn't enough to put the Bruisers down. The Bruisers used stifiling defense to keep Tag Hirap honest and forced a lot of turnovers from a usually efficient offense. Finals MVP James was key to the close victory as he had a monster second half by scoring 11 of his 17 in the 2nd half, and fought after every rebound and loose ball, which gave momentum to his team because of his energy. Tag Hirap had an amazing effort and is always considered to be a contender. But the Bruisers were used to these types of games as nearly every game in their season came down to the last possession and proved its not how you start, but how you finish. Congratulations to the Bruisers for winning the championship!

FINALS MVP:

JAMES (BRUISERS)

SEASON MVP: TINO (BAD NEWS)

14.5 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 3.5 APG, 3.2 SPG, 0.2 BPG.

Congratulations to Tino of Bad News for winning the PPBL Saturday League Regular Season MVP award! Tino is one of the most complete players in the league and showed this season that he is a forced to be reckoned with. He is part of the new team, Bad News, and Tino helped them go undefeated in the regular season and they are now 1 game away from reaching the finals. Tino is one of the fastest players in the league and can score in a multitude of ways. He's one of the hardest players to guard as he has great control of his speed, and along with his scoring prowess, Tino has very good court vision to find his teammates for easy shots. Not only can he be a force on offense, but he is a great defensive player as well. He does a lot for his team on the defensive end, guarding the opponents best player and creating turnovers. His stats may not be the flashiest, but the contributions he brings to his team are vital and second to none. Congratulations once again, Tino!

Saturday July 16 we had our all-star game for the rec league. We got to see some of the best and most exciting players in our league duke it out in a competitve game. The yellow division had the upper hand early with many of their players scoring a lot early, and seeing some great movement from them. A standout from the yellow division was Mike of Hot Boyz, where he scored over 30 points, and reassured himself as an all-star. We also saw Drew nail six 3-pointers and every single person on the team had an assist. But, it wasn't enough as the white division caught up with creating stops and a big second half from the all-star game MVP, Afam. We also saw Arnold score 20 and remind everyone why he is the "Bakulaw". It was a great game with great sportsmanship. The game reminded us of our sense of community, sportsmanship and integrity.
