Pinoy Pride Basketball League

Sunday, June 26 at the Matt Jimenez Community Center, the PPBL held their Sunday League championship. The matchup was the #1 seed, Blockfam taking on the defending champs, Genesis. From the beginning, Genesis blitzed Blockfam with an early barrage of offense from Deshaun. Genesis took the lead, and nearly lost it when Blockfam would make a run, but the defending champs always had an answer. Late in the game, Blockfam got the game down to single digits, and nearly took the lead with the big man, Ant, scoring 14 of his 21 late in the game to help give his team a late game surge. Whenever Blockfam had a run, Genesis would counter with their own. Blockfam actually had a chance to win this game. Late game, Blockfam turned the ball over down by 2 and were forced to foul on the next Genesis possession. With 1.6 seconds left, Deshaun missed the 1-and-1 free throw, and Ant nearly ended the game on a prayer. But ultimately, Genesis prevailed and secured their legacy in PPBL history. The Finals MVP, "Smokin" Joe put in a great effort with 22 pts, 7 reb, 6 ast, 4 stl and 1 blk to help give them the win and was absolutely hell-bent on keeping their championship. It was a great game between the two teams, and a shoutout to Blockfam for putting a valiant effort, and congratulations to Genesis for winning the championship and verifying their dynasty in the PPBL!
