Sunday, March 6 at the Matt Jimenez Community Center we had our Sunday League championship game. The game certainly did not disappoint. Fire Squad, who had to play short handed with the absences of Neil and Davis, were big underdogs, but fought valiantly. The game was a defensive struggle, as both teams got into foul trouble early. It was 25-22 in the first half, and then the offense started to flow. Finals MVP "Smokin" Joe was held to only two points in the first quarter, and then had an offensive barrage by scoring 26 out of his 28 points in the 2nd half. At the same time, Salafai of Fire Squad also put on a show, by scoring 20 of his 25 in the second half. Genesis was able to grab a double digit lead in the last minute, but Fire Squad just ran out of time. It was a great game by both teams. Congratulations to Fire Squad for a great effort, and congratulations to Genesis for winning their 2nd championship in 3 tries. What a great feat!

28 PTS (26 in 2nd half), 1 REB, 2 AST, 3 STL.

Deshaun from Genesis is this season's regular season MVP! He averaged 27 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 0.2 APG, 1.8 SPG and 1.6 BPG. Deshaun is a force inside the paint and is one of the harder players to stop because of his size. He's one of the very best at using his height advantages against other players. Deshaun scores mostly in the paint, but he can also shoot if his opponent decides to sag off on him. Not only can he score very efficiently, but Deshaun is a great rebounder and he averaged 11.8, He thrives on second chance points and always gives his team another chance with grabbing a lot of offensive rebounds. Not only is he great on offense, but Deshaun is a pest on the defensive end with great timing at blocking shots and getting quick steals. Because of his play, Genesis is in a position to win their 2nd championship in 3 consecutive appearances! Congratulations, Deshaun!
